Operator’s manual ASTRONAUT
M-HE.002.1003
7.1.4 The cow remains in the box too long
Alarm message = Exit gate blocked photocell defect
The cow remains in the box for more than 200 seconds after the front gate is opened.
Check the function of the expelling device (where fitted) in the "Testmenu > Box > Shock on" menu.
If the cows have a very hairy back, the expelling device (where fitted) will not be able to make good contact
with the cows hide. In this case, shave the cows.
Due to the fact that for some cows the feeding speed may be too high, the feed will remain in the feed through.
Adjust the feeding rates in the T4C/X-pert system.
7.1.5 Teat cups are connected incorrectly
The laser assumes teat identification but fails to connect the teat cup with the corresponding teat. Incorrect teat
connection may be caused by:
Soiled static TDS
1
/laser screen. Clean the TDS/laser screen by applying Astri
®
-TDS (see chapter G2.1 "Daily
maintenance > Robot arm").
Hairy udder. The laser may take a tuft of hair for a teat. Always shave the udders on time.
Deceptive light. An intensive light source such as low sunlight or a halogen lamp may effect the lasers
operation negatively by shining directly into the laser. Closing an outside door may be sufficient.
7.1.6 Cow is not milked correctly
The teat cups are connected correctly, but removed fairly soon and then re-connected.
Vacuum level (robots without MQC) is not reached. If the required vacuum level is not reached, the robot
concludes that the teat cup in question was not connected, or not connected properly and may be lying on the
ground. Re-connection of the teat cups is repeated a number of times up to a certain limit. The cow is then
released from the box, while the milking is considered a failure. When three cows in a row (depending on the
adjustments, refer to section 3.4.4 ’Adjust’) are registered with failed milkings, an alarm is generated. A
leakage or blockage may be the cause of incorrect vacuum level. Check for relevant changes close to the
milking robot which could have effected the functioning of the vacuum system. Check the teat cup liners,
tubes, tube couplings and sensors for leakage. Check if the vacuum pump and the regulator are functioning
correctly.
Blockage of air bleed hole in teat cup. The milk in the milk tube does not form a steady column, but instead
dances in the tube. Pierce the air bleed hole.
The milk flow is not detected or considered inadequate. The installation may have been contaminated by milky
deposits on the sensors. Check the milk flow sensors for deposits. If you detect any, check if the installation
is cleaned with acid. Calibration of the milk flow sensors is carried out automatically. Adjust the setting of teat
cup removal, if the installation is technically correct, but the cows are not milked out. Changes of adjustments
are generally not recommended and should only be made in the last resort.
NOTE
Changes are to be made in only in consultation with your Lely service technician or another Lely specialist.
The cow does not release her milk. Each change close to the milking robot may induce the cow to stop the
milk flow.
Check the operation of the feed manager and clean it, if necessary.
