CAUTION
IfthevehicleisinalocationthatmaybehazardouswhenDPFRegenerationbegins
(i.e.,incloseproximitytoammablematerialsorgases,insidetunnels,parkedunder
ammableobjects,etc.),theDPFRegenerationshouldbestopped(ifequipped).IfDPF
Regenerationisstoppedbythevehicleoperator,itmustbeinitiatedatalatertimewhen
thevehicleisinasaferlocation.DPFRegenerationsthatarestoppedandneverrestarted
atalatertime,however,willrequirethatthevehiclebetakentoanauthorizedMackTruck
dealertohavetheAftertreatmentRegenerationmanuallystartedwithspecialservicetools.
Note:Duringvehicleoperation,idlespeedmayincreasewhenthevehicleisstoppedata
trafclighttomaintainheatintheDPFforpassiveregeneration.
TherearetwotypesofAftertreatmentDPFRegeneration:PassiveregenerationandParked
regeneration.
Passiveregenerationoccurswhentheexhaustgaswithintheaftertreatmentsystemishot
enoughtoremovesootwithoutinjectingadditionalfuelintotheDPFsystem.Active
regenerationrequireadditionalfuelinjectionintotheDPF.
ParkedRegeneration
TheAftertreatmentDPFRegenerationsystemisself-monitoring.Undercertaindutycycles
driveractionisneededtoperformaparkedregeneration.Whendriveractionisneededto
performaparkedregeneration,aniconatthetopoftheDPFSmartswitchwillilluminate
tonotifythevehicleoperator.TheDPFSmartswitchallowsthevehicleoperatortoeither
stoporstartregeneration.(Certainconditionsmustbemet,however,beforeregeneration
canbemanuallystarted.)
Parkedregenerationallowstheoperatortostartand/orstoptheregeneration
manuallywhenthevehicleisparkedandtheengineisidling.Theoperatoris
notiedthataregenerationisneededwhentheiconsontheDPFSmartswitch
illuminate.Theoperatorshouldperformtheregenerationassoonaspossible.
PleaserefertotheinstructionsbelowonhowtousetheDPFSmartswitchfor
parkedregenerations.
1.Movethevehicletoasafelocation,applytheparkbrakeandallowtheengineto
idle.
