1. Introduction - Description of Operation
14 Morgana DocuMaster MFC - Service Manual
• If a checked value is greater than the Ref value by more than the calculated Limit,
the feed bin detects a miss feed.
• If a checked value is less than the Ref value by more than the calculated Limit, the
feed bin detects a miss feed.
Note: T
o allow for small variations in the substrate or printing
when a job is being run, the sensing system updates the bin
'Ref' with a moving average after each good feed.
The emitter/sensor is also used to measure the
length of the paper during the Test Set.
The sheet length measurement is used to control the feed clutch duty time for each
feed and to make the feed bin control PCB check for trailing and jam feed errors.
When a Test Set is complete, the MFC is ready to run.
1.9.2 The Paper Feed
The MFC conveyor is run from a DC stepper motor in the DRV module. The primary
drive train is located on the LH side of the MFC. A toothed timing belt connects
between the main drive motor and the drive shaft of the top feed bin. A staggered
sprocket and chain system transfers the drive from feed bin to feed bin, down to the
gathering area.
Each feed bin has a secondary gear drive on the RH
side of the MFC, which is used to
drive the feed shaft and outer conveyor shafts. Drive for the secondary gear drive is
taken directly from the feed bin drive shaft.
A feed trigger is sent from the CPU to the feed bins be
fore each feed. The feed bin
control pcbs and the CPU uses the PWM master timing signal from the creaser
controller PCB to synchronise all the MFC operations that occur in the feed cycle.
When a feed bin has received a feed trigger it starts its feed cycle.
