7. Electrical and Control System - Software System Description
7.5 Software System Description
There are two different control systems in the MFC. Each system has software that
controls the operation of that system. The two systems are.
The GUI Control System Controls the GUI panel, the feed system
operation
and the online bookletmaker
interface.
The Creaser Control System Controls the creaser operation and the main
drive system.
7.5.1 GUI CPU Control Software
There are two parts to the software in the GUI CPU:
• The 'application software' controls the operation of the MFC and includes the lan-
guage support.
• The 'boot firmware' lets you install the application software. The boot firmware also
loads the application software from the flash memory when you turn on the
machine.
Normally, software updates only affect the application software because software
updates
have a direct effect on the operation of the machine. There are several
methods to program the software into the GUI CPU.
Figure 7.19 How top Update the Software in the GUI CPU
The boot firmware and application software are stored in the flash memory. When you
turn on the machine, the boot firmware loads the application software into the 'run
memory', so that the machine can operate.
The run memory does not store information when
you turn off the machine. The flash
memory does store information when you turn off the machine.
The GUI CPU box is found inside the DRV module. T
o access the GUI CPU box you
need to open the hinged front panel (see Section 4.2.3).
