7.4.10 Adding Variation to Patterns
Variation provides an abundance of inspiration and even “happy accidents” when applied to
your workflow. The variation engine contains two modes:
Humanize: This mode adds natural rhythmic fluctuations to programmed sequences.
Random: This mode provides randomly generated patterns or variations of your beats and
melodies based on customizable values.
Variation is available in both Pad mode and Keyboard mode and can be applied to a Sound. In
Keyboard mode the Variation Random mode contains extra parameters that allow you to add
variety to melodic content.
To access Variation mode:
1. Select the Group (AH) containing the Sound to which you want to apply the variation.
2. Press SELECT + Sound (116).
3. Press SHIFT + PATTERN to access the Variation controls.
4. Press CONTROL to pin the Variation page.
5. Press F1 (HUMAN) to select Humanize mode or F2 (RANDOM) to select Randomize
mode.
6. Press the left and right page buttons to access the parameters.
7. After adjusting the parameters press F3 (APPLY) to apply your settings.
The displays contain the following parameters depending on whether you are Pad mode or Key-
board mode:
Element
Description
F1 HUMAN This mode provides natural rhythmic fluctuations to your
programmed sequences based on the values of the parameters of this
mode.
F2 RANDOM This mode creates randomly generated versions of your beats and
melodies based on the values of the parameters of this mode.
