Using the SeaTalk Auxiliary Junction Box
A junction box (providedwith the radar/chartand chart displays; optional
withthe radar displays)is used to connect the SeaTalk system to the display
unit.This junction box enables the SeaTalk bus, power and GPS to be
connected.
If power is not already available (via another SeaTalk instrument), the
junctionbox can be used to applypower to the SeaTalk bus for other
applications.The junction box may also be used for other purposes,e.g.
supplying power to a flux gate compass and routing the compass data to the
displayNMEA In connection, or alternatively, for connectinga NMEA GPS
system.
The junctionbox includes:
• SeaTalk cable and connectorto attachto display unit
• Power cable to connect to 12 Vpower (if required)
• Inputconnections to connect SeaTalk cable from externalequipment
• Spareconnectionsfor anotherinstrument
CAUTION:
Ensurecorrectpolarityof the 12 V supplybeforeapplyingradar or
SeaTalk power. It is recommendedthat a multimeter is used to check the
connections.
Figure 8-17 shows how to connect the junctionbox; Appendix B provides
connection details forspecific GPS and Beacon Receiversystems.
