GPS set uppage providesyou with information and the status of the tracked
navigationsatellitesforaSeaTalkGPS.ItalsoenablesyoutoSET UP aSeaTalk
Differential GPS, by manuallyretuning it to a differentdifferentialbeacon.
The GPS Navigation Status pop-up window (shown in Figure 6-4)provides,
foreach trackedsatellite,the satellite number, a graphical signal strengthbar
and its current usage status.HDOP and satelliteFix Statusare also displayed.
Datafor up to 12 satellitesare shown.

Positional accuracy is dependentupon certainparameters;in particular for
GPS, the azimuth and elevationangles areused in a triangulation processto
calculate position. HDOP (HorizontalDilution Of Position)is a measure of
thisaccuracy;a higher figure signifiesgreatererror. In ideal circumstances,
thefigure shouldbe in the region of 1.0. The Fix Status can indicate:
• FIX,where a satellite fixhas been acquired.
• D-FIX,where a differentialbeacon fix has been acquired.
• SD-FIX, where a satellite differentialfix has been acquired.
• NO FIX, where no fix can be acquired.
