8.6 System Connections
Grounding the System
It is importantthat an effective RF groundis connected to the system. You
must ground the display by connecting the drain wire (shield) of the Power/
NMEA Input cable to the ship’s RFground; a single ground point should be
usedfor all equipment.
If you need to extend the wire, the extension wire should be an 8 mm braid or
AWG 10 (6.0 mm
2
) multi-strandedcable.
If your vessel does not have an RF system, connect the drainwire to the
negativebatteryterminal.
DC Power Connection
Thedisplayisintendedforuseonships’DCpowersystemsratedat12V,24V
or 32 V. However, the operatingvoltage of the radar and radar/chartplotter
displaysis limitedby the scanner to which it is connectedas follows:
12 V and 24 V systems Radome Scanner System
12 V, 24V or 32 V 4 kW OpenArray ScannerSystem;
RC520
24 V or 32 V 10 kW Open Array ScannerSystem
The power connectionto the display should bemade at either the output
of thebattery isolatorswitch, or at a DC power distributionpanel.
Raymarine recommends that power is fed directly to the display via its
owndedicatedcablesystemand MUST beprotectedby athermal circuit
breakeror fuse, installedclose to the power connection.
The DC systemshould be either:
Negative grounded, with the negativebatteryterminal connectedto the
shipsground.
Floating, with neither battery terminalconnectedto the ships ground.
CAUTION:
This systemis not intended foruse on positive” ground vessels.
The power cableGround(earth)connections must beconnectedto the
ship’s groundas describedabove.
Power for External Equipment
Externalequipment cannot be powered fromthe display’s SeaTalk
interface.
It mustbe powered from the ship’s supply or via a SeaTalk bus.
Refer to Section 8.8 for further details.
