INTENDED USE
The displayunits detailed in this handbook may form part of navigational
radar systems intended for light marineuse.These displays and radar
systems are only an aid to navigation.
SAFETY NOTICES
Thisradar equipment must be installed and operated in accordance withthe
instructions contained in thismanual.Failure to do so can result in personal
injuryand/or navigational inaccuracies. In particular:
1. HIGH VOLTAGE.The LCDdisplayunit and scanner unit contain
high voltages.Adjustmentsrequirespecializedserviceproceduresand
toolsonly availableto qualified servicetechnicians thereareno user
serviceableparts or adjustments.The operator shouldnever removethe
displayunit cover or attempt to servicethe equipment.
2. ELECTROMAGNETIC ENERGY. The radar scannertransmits
electromagnetic energy. It is importantthat the radar is turned off whenever
personnel are required to come close to the scanner to perform work on the
scanner assemblyor associatedequipment.
Itisrecommendedthattheradarscannerismountedoutofrangeof personnel
(above head height).
Avoidlookingdirectlyattheantennaasyoureyesarethemostsensitivepartof
thebody to electromagnetic energy.
Whenproperlyinstalledand operated,theuseofthisradarwillconformtothe
requirements of ANSI/IEEE C95.1-1992 Standard for Safety Levels with
RespecttoHumanExposuretoRadioFrequencyElectromagneticFields,3Hz
to300 GHzandNRPB,BoardStatementon Restrictionson Human Exposure
toStaticandTimeVaryingElectromagneticFieldsandRadiation.DocNRPB,
N0. 5 (1993).
4.NAVIGATIONAID.Thisunitisonlyanaidtonavigation.Itsaccuracycan
be affectedby many factors, includingequipment failureor defects,
environmental conditions, and improper handlingor use. It is the users
responsibilityto exercisecommon prudence and navigationaljudgements.
Thisradar unit should not be relied upon as a substitutefor such prudenceand
judgement.
