3.6 Sound emissions
DANGER
Depending on the tractor model connected to the machine, the A-weighted
emission sound pressure level (ref. 20 μPa) at the operator's position can be
greater than 80 dB.
It is mandatory to respect the following indications in order to avoid risks to
the operator from noise.
With the sound pressure level at the operator station between 80 and 85
dB(A):
-
The employer must provide appropriate PPE (ear protectors or
disposable earplugs).
-
The employer must adequately inform and train the operator on the
safety measures to be taken.
-
Provision shall be made for health surveillance at the request of the
worker or where the competent doctor considers it necessary.
With the sound pressure level at the operator station between 85 and 87
dB(A):
- The employer must provide the operator with suitable PPE (ear protectors
or disposable earplugs) and check that the operator actually uses them
while the machine is operating.
- The employer must adequately inform and train the operator on the
safety measures to be taken.
- Health surveillance must be provided for all exposed workers.
- Appropriate measures must be taken to reduce noise exposure.
- The area around the machine must be delimited and marked, taking
into account the area of influence of the high noise, limiting access
only to strictly necessary personnel.
With the sound pressure level at the operator’s station including above 87
dB(A) or in the presence of loud impulse noises:
- Immediate action must be taken to reduce the operator’s exposure to
noise by identifying the causes of excessive exposure.
- The area around the machine must be delimited and marked, taking
into account the area of influence of the high noise, limiting access
only to strictly necessary personnel.
DANGER
With the sound pressure level at the operator’s station exceeding 80 dB(A),
use of the machine by the operator without the appropriate protective
equipment (ear protectors or disposable earplugs) may cause discomfort,
stress or hearing loss.
