Flushing the Printhead
If cleaning the Nozzle Face does not improve print quality, flush the Printhead with the
appropriate internal cleaning fluid. The procedure is different depending on whether a Cartridge
Ink System or Bag Ink System is being used. Flushing takes approximately five minutes for
each Printhead. The tools required are included in the CoPilot 500 Startup Kit.
ATTENTION: Use only Squid Ink approved fluids for cleaning or flushing the
Nozzle Face. Use only the appropriate cleaning or flushing fluid for the specific ink
being used (see “Inks and Fluids” on page 133).
ATTENTION: Use only non-abrasive lint-free wipes (Part Number 2007021).
Items Needed to Flush the Printhead (Cartridge Ink System):
• Non-Abrasive, Lint-Free Wipes
• Syringe and Tube from Flush Kit (P/N 2001022 for oil-based, P/N 2001083 for solvent-
based)
• Quart Container of Internal Flush Fluid Appropriate for the Ink Used (see “Inks and Fluids”
on page 133)
• Waste Ink Receptacle
To Flush the Printhead (Cartridge Ink System):
1. Power down the system (see “Powering Off” on page 118).
2. Disconnect the Ink Line from the Ink Line IN on the back of the Printhead.
3. Place a container suitable for capturing ink under the Printhead Purge Tube.
4. Remove the Cap from the Printhead Purge Tube.
5. Fold one or more non-abrasive, lint-free wipes and hold them gently against the front of
the Nozzle Face.
6. Fill the syringe from the Flush Kit with the appropriate internal flush fluid for the type of
ink being used (see “Inks and Fluids” on page 133).
7. Attach one end of the tube from the Flush Kit to the syringe.
8. Connect the other end of the tube to the Ink Line IN, and gently push the internal flush
fluid through the Ink Line IN. Ink will exit the Purge Tube.
