4.1 Principles of
Operation – Overview
4.1.1 Reliance EPS Endoscope
Processing System
See Figure 4-1.
The Reliance™ EPS is a high level disinfection system for the fast,
safe, low-temperature destruction of microorganisms on internal and
external surfaces of endoscopes and compatible accessories.
The effectiveness of the Reliance EPS is achieved through the ability
to flow the washing and high level disinfection solutions and rinse
water through all internal channels of the endoscope. Solutions enter
the endoscope at the control handle, which, when processing, is
contained in the control handle boot (see Figure 4-1). Since the
suction/biopsy channel and the air/water channel are interconnected
at their respective valve ports, both of these lumen systems are
irrigated. Any additional independent or connected channels with
openings on the control handle are also irrigated in this manner.
Some endoscopes and accessories require special consideration:
Endoscopes with additional channels that do not have channel
openings on the control handle must be processed with the aid
of a STERIS Flow Unit. Refer to the Endoscope Quick Reference
Guide and the Quick Reference Wall Chart - Flow Units for
details.
Endoscopes with a non-removable mechanically actuated valve
on the control handle must be processed with a STERIS Flow
Unit. Refer to the Endoscope Quick Reference Guide and the
Quick Reference Wall Chart - Flow Units for details.
Suction valves must be inserted into the valve irrigators to ensure
flow of the solutions on both the inner and outer surfaces.
Endoscope accessories placed in the accessory basket and on the
accessory pegs, contained within the accessory basket, will be
sprayed with the washing and high level disinfection solutions and
rinse water during processing.
IMPORTANT: A listing of the Safety Precautions t
o be observed when operating and servicing this
processor can be found in S
ECTION 1 of this manual. Do not operate the equipment until you have become
familiar with this information.
