30) Assembly of Gear Case
1. Use the tools below to install the bearing outer 1.
2. Install the gear case horizontally in a holder with its
propeller shaft opening facing upward.
3. Clean the outer race installation face in the gear case and
apply gear oil.
4. Apply gear oil to the external face of the outer race, and
position the outer race in the center of the housing with the
marked face of the race facing the inside of the housing.
5. Press the end of the rod to press-fit the outer race in the
housing securely using a press.

CAUTION
When the gear case, bevel gear assy A
gear, or bearing is replaced, measure the
backlash and select and install a proper
shim.
Refer to Chapter 6, “Shim Adjustment.”

29) Inspection of Gear Case
1. Check the skeg a and torpedo-like area b for cracks and
other damage.
Replace if necessary.
