2.1 Rules for cleanliness
When working on the fuel supply/injection system, pay careful at‐
tention to the following “5 rules”:
♦ Thoroughly clean all joints and surrounding areas before dis‐
mantling.
♦ Place removed parts on a clean surface and cover them over.
Use lint-free cloths only.
♦ Carefully cover opened components or seal them if repairs
cannot be carried out immediately.
♦ Install only clean parts; do not remove new parts from pack‐
aging until immediately before installing. Do not use parts that
have been kept unpackaged (for example in toolboxes).
♦ If system is open, do not work with compressed air. Do not
move the vehicle.

Caution
Observe the following for all removal and installation work on
fuel tank:
♦ Route all the various lines, e.g. for fuel, hydraulics, acti‐
vated charcoal filter system, coolant and refrigerant, brake
fluid and vacuum and electrical wiring in their original po‐
sitions.
♦ Ensure earth cable is correctly installed and tight between
fuel filler neck and body to prevent build-up of an electro‐
static charge.
♦ Ensure that there is sufficient clearance to all moving or
hot components.
