– Turn engine two revolutions in direction of engine rotation and
check valve timing.
If the markings align:
– Hold camshaft which is to be tightened using a 27 mm open-
end spanner -arrow-.
Note

Camshaft bar - T10068 A- must be removed while this is done.
♦
Note that all sprocket securing bolts must be renewed.
– Tighten securing bolts of inlet and exhaust camshaft adjusters
to 60 Nm +

turn (90°) further.
– Clean sealing surfaces for rear cover. Coat sealing surface
with sealant - D 176 501 A1- .
– Fit cover and tighten securing bolts -arrows- in diagonal se‐
quence to 8 Nm.
Further assembly is carried out in the reverse order of removal.

Conditions:
• Engine removed
• Drive plate removed
• Sump removed
• Sealing flange removed - gearbox side
• Cylinder head cover removed
