Using Flash Video
and 3D Media
Acrobat 9 Pro lets you incorporate media in PDF documents to bring your
documents to life. You can use dierent types of media, such as sound
and movie les, Flash movies, and 3D models and animations.
Tailor your projects to your users’ playback options by providing dier-
ent renditions of a movie compatible with dierent players. All versions
of Acrobat 9 and Adobe Reader are able to play Flash content without
a separate Flash player, as there is a player embedded in the Acrobat
and Adobe Reader programs. However, only Acrobat 9 Pro Extended
(Windows) can format and embed a SWF le as a Flash video le.
Flash is used and integrated with Acrobat in other ways. PDF portfolios
use a Flash navigation interface (read about portfolios in Chapter 4, “Pro-
ducing a PDF Portfolio”). Also, Adobe Presenter, a PowerPoint plug-in for
Acrobat 9 Pro Extended, uses a Flash interface for displaying content and
conguring quizzes (read how in Chapter 9, “Building Content with Adobe
Presenter”). Acrobat.com, featured in Chapter 11, “Live Reviewing and
Collaboration,” uses Adobe Air and Flash to build rich Internet applications
(RIAs).
Multimedia in general requires conguring some trust and security
settings—read about your options in #124, “Managing Multimedia and
Security Trusts.”
