Buzzword is the online Acrobat.com document processing application. In
addition to writing documents, you can also use commenting tools right
in the program, and share the le from the Buzzword interface. Editing,
commenting, and revising can be done as a team. Buzzword stores your
les and runs from Adobe secure servers, so they are always available on
the Web.
Open Buzzword from the Acrobat.com interface or from Acrobat by
choosing Create Buzzword Document from the Collaborate task button
menu. Once in Buzzword, you can invite others to collaborate on the
document using the Share feature at the bottom left of the application
window. Invitees can be placed in one of several categories, according to
the privileges granted to them—read about the dierent options in the
sidebar Whos Who?”
Once the application launches, you can do the following:
Click New at the upper right of the browser window to start a new
le.
Click Docs at the upper right of the browser window to display
the Document Organizer, described in #81, “Participating Online, and
select a le to work with.
To import a le from your computer, choose Document > Import from
the Buzzword menu, locate and select a le on your computer, and
click Open.
Whether you start from scratch or import a document, you work in
Buzzword just as you might any desktop application. You may notice that
the interface works a bit dierently from what you usually see on your
desktop. Since Buzzword is written on Flash, most menu items slide in and
out of view (read more in the sidebar “Get the Buzz”).
You access the panels and menus from the main Buzzword interface
(Figure 83).

Whos Who?
Buzzword offers four ways
for you to interact with
documents:
The Author is the crea-
tor and owner of the le,
and can delete a file from
Buzzword. The Author
can write, edit, and add to
comments made by other
participants. An Author
can invite collaborators,
change their roles, and
remove them from the le.
A Co-author has the
same rights as the
Author, except for
deleting a document.
A Reviewer can add com-
ments to a document,
but can’t add to other
comments or share the
document.
A Reader has access to
reading the file only, but
can’t comment or share
the file.
You don’t have to stay at
a particular status. If you
save a copy of a file with
another name, for example,
you become the Author.
Although the new copy will
include any comments that
were added, you have to add
collaborators yourself as the
list of collaborators from the
original isn’t transferred to
your copy.
