Controlling Action
and Interaction
The most common type of form eld is a button—so common, in fact,
that in Acrobat 9, the Button tool is included on the Advanced Editing
toolbar.
Buttons aren’t the only type of common action feature used in PDF
les. Links can be set using a variety of elements, including text or images.
Although Bookmarks display in the Bookmarks pane, they also function
as a type of link since they respond to the “Go to a page view action,
taking you wherever you want to go within a given document.
Speaking of action—whether you use buttons, links, or bookmarks,
you can generally perform the same sorts of actions. In this chapter, you’ll
learn how to use these versatile objects to control content and activity in
your PDF masterpieces.
And, if you thought you could apply actions only to specic items in
a document, think again. You’ll see how to apply actions to the docu-
ment as a whole, providing invaluable orientation for large and complex
documents.
