Media Access Control
A sublayer of the data link layer, which provides addressing
and channel access control mechanisms that make it
possible for several terminals or network nodes to
communicate within a multiple access network that
incorporates a shared medium, e.g.Ethernet.

Media Independent Interface
An interface originally designed to connect a fast Ethernet
MAC-block to a PHY chip, which now has been extended to
support reduced signals and increased speeds

Most Significant Bit
The bit position in a binary number having the greatest
value, which is sometimes referred to as the left-most bit
due to the convention in positional notation of writing more
significant digits further to the left
