10.2.2 Refilling the battery
WARNING
The electrolyte is a substance that is hazardous to human health. Always work in a
well-ventilated area. During this operation, always wear gloves or protective
goggles. If electrolyte comes into contact with skin and/or clothes, wash
immediately with copious amounts of water. If the electrolyte comes into contact
with the eyes, wash with copious amounts of water and seek medical attention. Do
not smoke and keep away from open flames and sparks.
• Fill the elements with sulfuric acid of density 1270/1280 g/L reported at temperature 20℃,
until the level is about 5 mm above the edge of the separators.
• Let the batteries stand for about 30 minutes, and correct the levels if necessary.
NOTE
Wipe up any spillage of electrolyte immediately.
10.2.3 Charging the battery
WARNING
Check that the battery charger provides a constant voltage and is compatible with
the battery.
Do not use rapid chargers.
WARNING
Pay careful attention to the warning symbols indicated on the battery charger.
WARNING
Place the battery and charger on clean, stable surfaces. Prevent the battery and
charger from coming in contact with water and dirt.
While charging and for at least an hour after charging, the battery releases explosive and toxic
fumes.
WARNING
Charge the battery in a well-ventilated place. Do not smoke and keep away from
open flames and sparks.
Connect the red cable to the positive (+) pole and the black cable to the negative (-) pole.
WARNING
Connect the power plug of the charger only after the connections to the battery
have been properly made.
