Perform A Thyroid Uptake On A New Patient When Recounting A Standard:
1. Select <Testing> from the Atomlab 960 Home Page. The Testing Menu is now displayed.
2. Select <Thyroid Uptake>. The Select or Add A Patient screen is now displayed.
3. Add a patient for which the thyroid study will be performed.
4. Select <Accept>. The Add Study Selection screen is now displayed. This screen displays the
patient name and uptake study procedures from which to choose. Highlight the procedure
method desired and then select <Accept>.
NOTE: If you choose a patient already in the system, select <Add Study> to display the Add
Study screen.
NOTE: Procedures must be added in the Procedures section of the Utilities program.
5. The Study Selection screen is now displayed for the selected patient.
6. Highlight the desired study and select <Accept>. The Study Selection screen is now
displayed. The patient’s name, ID number and the selected procedure are displayed. Select
<Next>.
CAUTION: The Thyroid Uptake screen is now displayed. Confirm that you have the
correct patient displayed before proceeding.

7. Select <Count Standard>. The Activity Measurements screen is displayed.
8. Enter the Patient Dose activity, then select <Accept> to continue. A message is displayed
instructing the user to prepare to count the standard.
9. Position the capsule(s) in the thyroid phantom and set up the collimator for use. Set the
distance on your distance bar and move the collimator into position. A red LED light can be
flipped out from the rim into the center of the collimator face to help align the thyroid
position. Remember to flip the LED back to the retracted position and move the distance
bar to the bottom of the collimator out of the field before counting. The capsule count
distance and the thyroid count distance must be the same. When you are fully prepared to
count the standard, select <Accept>.
WARNING: You must use the same geometry for counting the sample/capsule or lab
background as used for counting the thyroid and / patient background. The system
calculation assumes the same geometry when comparing counts to counts. You must
also ensure that the collimator is at a right angle to the neck phantom and the thyroid
so that it is positioned correctly for counting to retain the correct geometry. Make sure
the distance bar and positioning light are not in the counting field.
