6-20 THYROID UPTAKE Biodex Medical Systems, Inc. © 2014
6. Ensure the new test is highlighted and select <Next> to advance to the Thyroid
CAUTION: The Thyroid Uptake screen is now displayed. Confirm that you have the
correct patient displayed before proceeding.
ATTENTION: L'écran prise thyroïde est maintenant affiché. Confirmez que vous avez le
patient correct affiché avant de continuer.
7. Select <Count Standard>. The rd>. The Activity Measurements screen is displayed.
8. Enter the Patient Dose activity, then select <Accept> to continue. A message is displayed
instructing the user to prepare to count the standard.
9. Position the capsule(s) in the thyroid phantom and set up the collimator for use. Set the
distance on your distance bar and move the collimator into position. The distance bar and
a red LED light can be flipped out from the rim into the center of the collimator face to help
align the thyroid position. Remember to flip the LED back to the retracted position and
move the distance bar to the bottom of the collimator out of the field before counting. The
capsule count distance and the thyroid count distance must be the same. When you are
fully prepared to count the standard, select <Accept>.
WARNING: You must use the same geometry for counting the sample/capsule or lab
background as used for counting the thyroid and / patient background. The system
calculation assumes the same geometry when comparing counts to counts. You must also
ensure that the collimator is at a right angle to the neck phantom and the thyroid so that
it is positioned correctly for counting to retain the correct geometry.
10. The Counting Standard screen is now displayed. Once counting begins, ROI counts, ROI
CPM, Elapsed time and Time Remaining are indicated to the right of the counting window.
When the system finishes counting, it will stop and complete a final download of the
spectrum. The message “Counting Complete” is displayed at the bottom of the screen.
Select <Next> to return to the Thyroid Uptake screen.
NOTE: If you wish to perform a spectrum analysis, select the <Analysis> icon before
selecting <Next>.
11. Select <Count Lab Bkg>. The system prompts to position the probe to count background.
You should count with the neck phantom in front of the collimator without the source in it.
