12. Remove the capsule from the neck phantom and position the probe to measure lab
background. The distance bar and a red LED light can be flipped out from the rim into the
center of the collimator face to help align the thyroid position. Remember to flip the LED
back to the retracted position and move the distance bar to the bottom of the collimator
out of the field before counting. When the probe has been positioned, select <Accept>.
The system begins counting background and will count for the selected time.
13. When lab background counting is finished, a “Counting Complete” message is displayed at
the bottom of the screen. Select <Next> to return to the Thyroid Uptake screen.
NOTE: If you wish to perform a spectrum analysis, select the <Analysis> icon before
selecting <Next>.
14. The Thyroid screen is now displayed. Review the results.
NOTE: If you are not satisfied with the results for dose or lab background, select the item
you wish to recount and recount the standard or lab background before saving.
15. If satisfied with the results select <Save>. The Verify Standard Count screen is now
displayed.
16. After saving, give the dose to the patient.
NOTE: If you do not immediately give the dose to the patient, you can correct the
administration time by selecting the <Settings> icon on the Thyroid Uptake screen and
entering a corrected Dose Administration Time.
17. Tell the patient to return at a specific time.
18. Select <Back> to return to the Study Selection screen.
19. Select <Back> to return to the Select or Add a Patient screen if you wish to add another
patient or are counting the thyroid of a returning patient.
NOTE: You can now use the system for other functions by returning to the Home screen
and making the appropriate selections.
20. When the patient returns at the specified time, select <Testing> and then <Thyroid
Uptake>.
21. Highlight the patient on the Select or Add a Patient screen and select <Next>.
NOTE: You can use the search options at the top of the screen to find the desired patient
by entering the last name and/or ID number and selecting <Search> (magnifying glass).
22. Confirm the patient’s name, ID and study on the Study Selection screen. Select <Next> to
advance to the Thyroid Uptake screen.
23. Select <Count Thyroid> and then position the patient’s thyroid with the same geometry as
used for counting the dose. The distance bar and a red LED light can be flipped out from

to flip the LED back to the retracted position and move the distance bar to the bottom of
the collimator out of the field before counting. Select <Accept> to begin counting the
patient thyroid.
