Overview
2
Whenever oil seals, sealing gaskets, gaskets, sealing rings, lock washers, split pins,
self-locking nuts, and certain other specified components are used, new ones must be used.
That is, before installing these new components, the residual material on the mating surface
must be removed.
When using a specified type of lubricating material, adhesive, or sealant, the specified
type must be used.
General precautions
When repairing the vehicle, you should observe the general precautions described in the
following "Warning" and "Caution". These precautions apply to many maintenance
procedures in this Manual, but the contents of "Warning" and "Caution" are not repeated
during each maintenance procedure.
Metric Information
System of measurement for metric fasteners
Most of the fasteners used in the vehicle are in metric units. When replacing fasteners,
you must ensure that the diameter, pitch and strength of the replacement are correct.
Strength identification of metric fasteners
The most commonly used metric fasteners have strength performance levels of 4T and
7T, and the star shaped lines representing strength levels are stamped on the top of each
bolt. Some metric nuts have a strength mark with a punch mark on the nut face. The
following table shows various intensity markers. When replacing metric fasteners, pay
attention to using bolts and nuts with the same strength or bolts and nuts with a slightly
higher strength than the original fastener (with the same or higher grade). Of course,
selecting the correct size for replacement fasteners is also important. Correct replacement
parts for bolts and nuts can also be obtained through the division of parts.
Standard tightening torque for metric fasteners
Each fastener should be tightened to the torque specified in each section of this
Manual.
If there are no instructions or regulations, please refer to the following table for the
torque tightening of each fastener. However, when using fasteners with greater strength
than the original fastener, the torque specified for the original fastener should be used.
