3.4 Windshield
3.4.1 Overview
The windshield is installed with a special type of adhesive, that is, it is composed of an
urethane adhesive used together with a primer. As for windshield replacement, it is
important to use an adhesive that provides surface adhesion strength and adopt
appropriate procedures.

! Caution
This chapter describes replacing glass by using two specific types of primer and one
type of glass adhesive. (This glass adhesive is composed of urethane glass adhesive mixed
with a primer). When using the primer and glass adhesive produced by other manufacturers,
be sure to refer to the instructions provided by them. If glass adhesive is inadvertently or
improperly used in the following operations, its original adhesive performance will be
affected. Therefore, before working, pay attention to carefully reading the instructions and
brand numbers provided by the manufacturer of the glass adhesive used, and be sure to use
this procedure throughout the entire work period, and observe every precaution.
If the coated surface is scratched or otherwise damaged, it is important to repair the
damaged part, otherwise corrosion will begin there.
1. Use the type of adhesive mentioned above that has the following characteristics.
shear strength: ≥40kg/cm² (569lb/in.²)
2. Adhesive materials and tools required for removal and installation.
• The adhesive is made by mixing urethane and primer (for a windshield glass).
Adhesive (400g(14.1oz)).
For glass primer (15g(0.5oz)).
For vehicle body primer (15g(0.5oz)).
• Awl.
• Piano wire.
• Brush for applying primer (2 pcs.).
• Cutting tools.
• Rubber suction cup grip.
• Sealant gun (for filling adhesive).
• Putty scraper (used to trim the adhesive).
