5.1 Drive shaft
5.1.1 Overview
The drive shaft is one of the main components of the transmission system, and the
torque of the differential is transmitted to the front wheels through both transmission
shafts to drive the vehicle. Due to the continuous direction changes of the vehicle during
driving, it is required that the drive shaft should have a certain amount of movement, so a
universal joint is designed in the drive shaft assembly. In the front drive shaft assembly, the
constant velocity ball cage type universal joint is used for the wheel side of the front drive
shaft and the constant velocity three ball pin type universal joint is used for the differential
side. The drive shaft slides in the expansion or contraction direction through a three ball pin
universal joint.
