12.5.2 Cleaning and storing fuel
Itisimportantforthefueltobekeptclean.
Theadviceprovidedbelowwillhelpmaintainfuelquality.
– Neverusezinccoatedcontainers.
– Never clean the inside of containers or power supply system components with cloths that may leave
deposits.
– Thecisterncapacitymustallowintervalsbetweenrefuelingnottobetoolong.Acapacityof3000litersis
sufficientforanaveragesizedcompany.
– Thestoragecisternmustbecoveredandplacedonasupportthatishighenoughtoallowrefuelingby
meansofgravity.Alargebasinmustbeplacedunderthecisternincaseoffuelleakageinordertocollect
it.Thecisternmusthaveanopeninglargeenoughtoallowsomeonetoaccessitforcleaningpurposes.
– Thedeliverytapmustbelargeratthebottominordertotrapanydeposits;itmustalsobeequippedwith
aremovablefilter.Thecisternshouldbetilted40mmpermetertowardsthesedimentationdrainplug.
– Thefuelbarrelsmustbecoveredwhenstoredtopreventwaterinfiltration.Thebarrelsshouldbeslightly
tiltedslightly,sothatanywaterwillruntotheupperrim.Thefuelbarrelsshouldnotbestoredfortoo
longbeforebeingused.
– Ifthebarrelsarekeptoutside,theircapsmustbetightlyclosedtopreventwaterfromseepingin.
– Afterrefuelingthestoragecisternsorbarrels,itisrecommendedtoallowthefueltosetforatleasttwo
hours,therebyallowinganysedimentofwaterandimpuritiestobedepositedbeforethefuelisused.
12.5.3 Refueling
Whenrefueling(fig.1507241)itisnecessaryto:
– Parkthevehicleandturnofftheengine
– Openthefuelcap
– Refuel
– Closethefuelcap

12.5.4 Fuel tank: Cleaning
Withthevehicleinthemaintenanceposition:
– Placeasuitablecontainerunderthefueltank.
– Remove the cap from under the tank (fig. 1507251) and
drainthefueltoremoveimpuritiespresentinthetank.
– Putbackthecapandfillwithcleanfuel.

– Checkthatallsafetystickersareintactandingoodcondition.
