12.19 Boom maintenance
12.19.1 Sliding blocks maintenance
Worn sliding blocks can lead to oscillations and clearances
between one extension and the other with consequent loss of
precisioninthemovementsanddangerofloadfalling.
– Forthedeadlinesseethesummarytableatthebeginningof
thechapter.
– Withsevereworkingconditionsthewearisgreater.

Maintenance to the telescopic boom sliding blocks must be performed by authorized DIECI service.
12.19.2 Boom lubrication with grease
Theboomslidingblocksmustbekeptlubricatedtopreventas
muchaspossiblethedeteriorationandmaintainsoftmovements.
– Ifthegreaselayeristhinorifimpurities(sand,dust,shavings,
etc...)arepresent,proceedasfollows:
– Preparethevehicleinthemaintenanceposition.
– Turnonthevehicle.
– Fullyextendtheboomandkeepitinhorizontalposition.
– Turnofftheengineandremovetheignitionkey,placeasign
inthecabshowing"maintenanceinprogress".
– Disconnectthebatteryusingthebatterycutoffswitch.
– Removethelayerofgreaseandimpuritiesonthesurfaceof
theextensionswithacloth.
– Useabrushtoapplyalayerofapprovedtypegreaseonall
foursidesoftheextensions.
– Turnonthevehicle.
– Fully retract and extend the boom several times to evenly
distributethegrease.
– Turnoffthevehicle.
