Appendix A: Tests on Long Fiber Links with the OptiFiber Pro OTDR
639
provided to connect the launch and tail cords to the OTDR port.
See “How to Do a Bi-directional SmartLoop Test” on page 384.
To minimize the effect of the port protector patch cord on results,
do not use a cord longer than 50 cm (20 in).
Use the Correct Test Limit
Make sure that the limit you select does not have a length limit
that is too short for the link.
Note
For more information and updates on how to do
tests on long links, see the Fluke Networks
Knowledge Base.
For Tests on OSP Links
For tests on long, singlemode outside plant links, use the
OptiFiber Pro HDR OTDR module. A typical maximum test range
for the HDR OTDR is 260 km for a link with no splitters. This OTDR
can also identify splitters that are used in PON (passive optical
network) installations.
