4. Swap power supply units to see that the issue follows which power supply unit, if the issue follows one
power supply unit, then place the failing one.
5. Review the event logs and identify problem category, follow the event log actions and fix the problem.
Serial-device problems
Use this information to solve problems with serial ports or devices.

Complete the following steps until the problem is solved.
1. Make sure that:
• Each port is assigned a unique address in the Setup utility and none of the serial ports is disabled.
• The serial-port adapter (if one is present) is seated correctly.
2. Reseat the serial port adapter.
3. Replace the serial port adapter.
Serial device does not work
1. Make sure that:
• The device is compatible with the server.
• The serial port is enabled and is assigned a unique address.
• The device is connected to the correct connector (see
“System-board-assembly connectors” on
page 36
).
2. Reseat the following components:
a. Failing serial device.
b. Serial cable.
3. Replace the following components:
a. Failing serial device.
b. Serial cable.
4. (Trained technician only) Replace the system board.
Software problems
Use this information to solve software problems.
1. To determine whether the problem is caused by the software, make sure that:
• The server has the minimum memory that is needed to use the software. For memory requirements,
see the information that comes with the software.
Note: If you have just installed an adapter or memory, the server might have a memory-address
conflict.
• The software is designed to operate on the server.
• Other software works on the server.
• The software works on another server.
2. If you receive any error messages while you use the software, see the information that comes with the
software for a description of the messages and suggested solutions to the problem.
