4. Service Procedures - Diagnostic Procedures
4.4.2.2 Test the Output of the High-Voltage Anti-Static Transformer
Before you start:
(1) Set the main input switch to OFF (0).
(2) Disconnect the transformer power cord.
(3) Remove the three screws that attach the transformer lid.
(4) Open the transformer lid
(5) Disconnect the ioniser bar cable from the high voltage output post.
(6) Remove the ioniser bar cable fixing nut and washer.
(7) Detach the ioniser bar cable from the high-voltage anti-static transformer.
Step Action Information
1 Connect the transformer power
cord to the high-volt
age anti-static
transformer.
When you have connected the power
cord to the transformer, set the main
input switch to ON (I).
2 Do a check of the high voltage
output indicator light.
• If the light is off or dim the
transformer is defective and
must be replaced (see Section
4.7.8).
• If the light is on the transformer is
good. Check the ioniser bar (see
Section 4.4.2.3).
Additional Tests:
The transformer's high voltage output can be
measured with a high voltage probe
across the output post.
• The voltage must measure 7.0kV.
The transformer's high voltage output can be checked
using a screwdriver with an
electrically insulated handle.
Warning: Use extreme caution not to touch live circuits when the MFC is turned on.
(1) Put the shaft of the screwdriver against the top edge of the transformer casing.
(2) Move the tip of the screwdriver to the high voltage output post while you keep the
shaft in contact with the top edge of the transformer casing.
(3) If the high voltage output is good, a spark should jump a gap of at least 2 - 3mm
between the output post and the tip of the screwdriver.
Note: The
high voltage output transformer is good if it passes
all the above tests. Connect the ioniser bar cable to the
transformer and refer to the ioniser bar tests that follow.
4 Do a check of the high voltage
output indicator light.
(See Figure 4.19).
If the light is off or dim the
transformer is defective
and must be
replaced (see Section 4.7.8).
5 Do an output test on the anti-static
transformer
.
(See Section 4.4.2.2).
