When are Pilots Used in DVB-S2?
In general it is advised to use pilots(especially in the following cases).
When a noticeable amount of phase noise is present (for example LNBs with "bad" phase noise);
At low data rates ;
When distortion is present on the signal, for example due to non-linearity.
12.1.16.4 Physical Layer Scrambling
Physical layer scrambling is performed on each physical layer frame (excluding the Physical layer
header) to perform energy dispersal of the modulated signal.
