Radar System Checks
and Adjustments
i. Alignthe vessel’s bow to the target.
ii. Note the position of the target relative to the Heading marker.
iii. IfthetargetisnotundertheHeadingmarker,thereisanalignmenterror
and the radar can be adjusted as detailedbelow.
➤ To adjustthe radar to eliminate the alignment error:
1. Ifa visualrelativebearingof a targethas been determined,as in 2.1 above,
setan EBL to this relative bearing.
2. PresstheMENU keytodisplaythesetupsoftkeysandselect RADAR SET UP.

3. Use the trackpadto move the selectionbar on the Radar Set Up Menuto
BEARING ALIGNMENT.
4. Use the softkeys to adjust the Bearing Alignment slider and to rotatethe
radar picture.As soon as you start the adjustment, the menu is cleared so
that the rotation of the picturecan be seen. The keys can pressed and held,
to rotate the picture quickly, rather than in single steps.
5. Rotate the picture to place the target under the EBL, or Heading Marker,
dependingon the method used to obtainthe correctrelative bearing.
6. When the bearing alignmenterror has beeneliminatedpress ENTER to re-
displaythe Radar Set Up menu.
7. Press ENTER again to return to the set up soft keys, then press CLEAR to
return to the normal radar screen.
8. After adjusting the radar, always check the bearing alignment at the next
opportunity. Usually the bow alignment to target is the most convenient
method, see If the vessel is under way (in reasonably calm conditions): on
page 8-17.
