2-26 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE
CYLINDER HEAD, CYLINDER AND
PISTON
CYLINDER HEAD INSPECTION
• Remove the cylinder head. (!6-4)
• Decarbonize the combustion chambers.
• Inspect for pinholes, cracks and other damage.
• If any defects are found, replace the cylinder head with a new
one.
CYLINDER INSPECTION
• Remove the cylinder. (!6-5)
• Inspect the cylinder wall for any scratches, nicks or other
damage.
• If any defects are found, replace the cylinder with a new one.
PISTON INSPECTION
• Remove the piston. (!6-6)
• Decarbonize the top surface of the piston.
• Remove carbon deposits from the piston ring groove.
• Check for scratches and cracks.
• Check piston ring wear.
• If any defects are found, replace the piston with a new one.
