5.Mounttheshaftinavise.Removethelocknutandpistonfromtheshaft.
Carefullyslidetheheadandinternalcollarofftheshaft.
6.RemoveanddiscardtheU-ring(item12inFigure101)andO-ringfromthe
piston.Removeanddiscardthedustseal,back-upwasher,O-ring,and
rodsealfromthehead.
InspectingtheSteeringCylinder
CAUTION
Useeyeprotectionsuchasgoggleswhenusingcompressedair.
1.Washallthecylindercomponentsincleansolventanddrythemwith
compressedair.
2.Inspecttheinternalsurfaceofthebarrelfordeepscratches,out-of-roundness,
andbending.
3.Inspectthehead,shaft,andpistonforexcessivepitting,scoring,andwear.
4.Replacethesteeringcylinderiftheinternalcomponentsarewornor
damaged.
AssemblingtheSteeringCylinder(4-WheelDrive)
1.Useanewsealkitandreplacethedustseal,U-ring,back-upwasher,rod
seal,andallO-ringstothepistonandhead.Applycleanhydraulicuidtoall
thesealkitcomponentsbeforeyouinstallthem.
IMPORTANT
Clampingthevisejawsagainsttheshaftsurfacecoulddamagethe
shaft.Whensecuringtheshaftinavise,protecttheshaftsurface.
2.Mounttheshaftsecurelyinavise.
Note:Donotdamagetherodsealanddustsealduringinstallation.
3.Coattheshaftlightlywithcleanhydraulicuid.Slidetheinternalcollarand
headontotheshaft.
Note:DonotdamagetheO-ringduringinstallation.
4.Installthepistonontotheshaft.Installthelocknutontotheshaftandtighten
thelocknut.
5.Removetheshaftfromthevise.
IMPORTANT
Whenclampingthecylinder’sbarrelinavise;clamponthepivotend
onlytopreventdamage.Donotclosetheviseonthebarrel.
6.Mountthesteeringcylinderbarrelinaviseequippedwithsoftjawsby
clampingonthebarrelsothattheshaftendtiltsupslightly.
7.Coatalltheinternalcylindercomponentswithcleanhydraulicuid.Slidethe
piston,shaft,andheadassemblyintothebarrel.
8.Useaspannerwrench,securetheheadinbarrelwiththeinternalcollar.
