HydraulicHoses
Thehydraulichosesaresubjecttoextremeconditionssuchaspressure
differentialsduringoperationandexposuretoweather,sun,chemicals,very
warmstorageconditions,inadditiontomishandlingduringoperationand
maintenance.Theseconditionscancausedamagetothehoseordeterioration
tothehosematerial.Somehosesaremoresusceptibletotheseconditionsthan
others.Examineallofthehydraulichosesofthemachinefrequentlyforthe
followingsignsofdeteriorationordamage:
•Ahosethatishard,cracked,cut,abraded,charred,leaking,orotherwise
damaged.
•Ahosethatiskinked,crushed,attened,ortwisted.
•Ahosecoverthatisblistered,soft,degraded,orloose.
•Hosettingsthatarecracked,damaged,orbadlycorroded.
Whenyoureplaceahydraulichose,ensurethatthehoseisstraight(nottwisted)
beforeyoutightenthettings.Observetheimprint(layline)onthehosetodo
this.Using2wrenches,holdthehosestraightwith1wrenchandtightenthehose
swivelnutontothettingwiththeotherwrench;refertoInstallingtheHydraulic
HoseandTube(O-RingFaceSealFitting)(page5–9).
Note:Ifthehosehasanelbowat1end,tightentheswivelnutontheelbowend
beforeyoutightenthenutonthestraightendofthehose.

WARNING
Releaseallpressureinthehydraulicsystembeforeperformingany
workonthesystem;refertoReleasingPressurefromtheHydraulic
System(page5–6).
•Keepyourbodyandhandsawayfrompin-holeleaksornozzles
thatejecthydraulicuidunderhighpressure.
•Donotuseyourhandstosearchforleaks;useapieceofpaper
orcardboard.
•Hydraulicuidescapingunderpressurecanhavesufcientforce
topenetratetheskinandcauseseriousinjury.
•Ifhydraulicuidisinjectedintoyourskin,theuiddamageto
yourbodymustbesurgicallyremovedwithinafewhoursbya
doctorfamiliarwiththisformofinjuryorgangrenemayresult.
