ChargingtheHydraulicSystem
Note:Wheninitiallystartingthehydraulicsystemwithneworrebuiltcomponents
suchashydraulicpump,hydraulicmotor,orliftcylinders,itisimportantthatthe
hydraulicsystemischargedproperly.Removetheairfromthesystemandits
componentstoreducethechanceofdamage.
IMPORTANT
Changethehydraulic-uidlterwhenyourepairorreplacethe
hydrauliccomponents.
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurfaceandshutofftheengine.
2.Afterthehydraulicsystemcomponentshavebeenproperlyinstalledandif
thehydraulicpumpwasrebuiltorreplaced,ensurethatthehydraulicpump
housingisatleasthalffullofcleanhydraulicuid.
3.Ensurethatallofthehydraulicconnections,lines,andcomponentsare
securedtightly.
Note:Flushandllthehydraulicsystemandreservoirwheneverthereisa
severecomponentfailureorthesystemiscontaminated;refertoFlushing
theHydraulicSystem(page5–80).
4.Ensurethatthehydraulicreservoir(frontaxle)isfull.Addcorrectquantityof
hydraulicuidifnecessary;refertotheOperator’sManual.
5.Checkthecontrollinkageforproperadjustment,binding,ordamagedparts.
6.Performthefollowingtopreventenginefromstarting:
A.Disconnecttheelectricalconnectortothefuelstopsolenoidon
Groundsmaster3280-Dmachines.
B.DisconnectandgroundallenginesparkplugwiresonGroundsmaster
3320machines.
7.Primethehydraulicpump;refertoPrimingtheHydraulicPump(page5–79).
8.Connectthefuelstopsolenoid(Groundsmaster3280-D)orsparkplugwires
(Groundsmaster3320)toallowtheenginetostart.
9.EnsurethatthetractionpedalisintheNEUTRALpositionandthePTOswitch
isintheOFFposition.Starttheengineandrunitatlow-idlespeed.
Note:Thehydrostat/hydraulicpumpmustpickupthehydraulicuidand
llthehydraulicsystem.Ifthereisnoindicationofllin30seconds,shut
offtheengineandndthecause.
10.Afterthehydraulicsystemstartstoshowthesignsofll,pressthedecklift
switchuntiltheliftcylinderrodmovesinandoutseveraltimes.
11.Iftheliftcylinderdoesnotmoveafter3to5secondsorifthepumpemits
abnormalsounds,shutofftheengineimmediately,andndthecauseor
problem.Inspectforthefollowing:
A.Theoillterorsuctionlinesthatareloose.
B.Anincorrecthoserouting.
C.Thesuctionlinethatisblocked.
D.Thechargereliefvalveinthehydraulicpumpthatisdamaged.
12.Aftertheliftcylindermovesnormally,proceedtostep13.
