RemovingtheRearAxle(4-WheelDrive)
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,lowerthecuttingdeck,shutoffthe
engine,settheparkingbrake,andremovethekeyfromthekeyswitch.
2.Drainthehydraulicuidfromtherearaxle;refertotheTractionUnit
Operator’sManual.
3.Removethe2rearwheelsfromtherearaxle;refertoRemovingtheWheel
(page7–4).
4.Removethe6socket-headscrews(item9inFigure255)and6lockwashers
thatsecurethedriveshaftassemblytothebi-directionalclutchontherear
axle.Positiontheendofthedriveshaftawayfromtheclutch.
5.Removethesteeringcylinderfromtherearaxle;refertoRemovingthe
SteeringCylinder(4-WheelDrive)(page5–123).
6.Ifthemachinehasrearweight(s)attachedtotheframe,removetheweight(s).
7.Supporttherearaxletopreventitfromfalling.Removethe4ange-head
screws(item20inFigure255)thatsecuretherearaxlesupporttothe
machineframe.Lowertherearaxleandrearaxlesupportfromthemachine.
8.Removethejamnut(item18inFigure255)andthrustwasherfromthe
axlepinthatsecurestherearaxletotherearaxlesupport.Removethe
washer-headscrewthatsecurestheangeoftheaxlepintotherearaxle
support.
9.Removetheaxlepin.Separatetherearaxlesupportfromtherearaxle.Note
thelocationofthethrustwashersonbothendsoftheaxlemountingboss.
InstallingtheRearAxle(4-WheelDrive)
1.Positiontherearaxlesupporttotheaxle.Installthethrustwashers(items
31and32inFigure255)betweentheaxlebossandtheaxlesupportto
minimizeclearance.
2.Installtheaxlepin(item22inFigure255)tosecuretheaxletotherearaxle
support.Installthethrustwasherandjamnutontothepivotpin.T orquethe
jamnutto122to163N∙m(90to120ft-lb).Securethepivotpintotheaxle
supportwiththewasher-headscrew.
3.Positiontheaxleandaxlesupportunderthemachinewithajack.Raisethe
assemblytothemachineframeandalignthemountingholesofaxlesupport
andthemachineframe.
4.Securetherearaxlesupporttotheframewiththe4ange-headscrews
(item20inFigure255).
5.Installthesteeringcylindertotheaxleassembly;refertoInstallingthe
SteeringCylinder(4-WheelDrive)(page5–124).
6.Positiontheendofthedriveshafttothebi-directionalclutchontherearaxle.
Securethedriveshafttotheclutchwiththe6socket-headscrews(item9
inFigure255)and6lockwashers.
7.Installthe2rearwheelstotherearaxle;refertoInstallingtheWheel(page
7–5).
8.Ifequippedwiththerearweight(s),attachtheweight(s)totherearofthe
machine.
9.FilltheaxleandinputgearboxwithSAE80W−90weightgearlube;referto
