To ensure correct Soil Moisture Sensor EC-5 readings, observe the following installation
guidelines:
• The soil adjacent to the probe surface has the strongest influence on the probe reading,
and that the probe measures the volumetric water content. Make sure there are no air
gaps or excessive soil compaction around the probe influences the readings.
• Do not install the probes near large metal objects, such as metal poles or stakes. This
can attenuate the electromagnetic
field of the probe and adversely aect output
readings.
3.4 Placing Weather Station
The weather station enclosure is installed on a mast. The following guidelines apply:
• The enclosure is installed at eye height. The radiation shield protects the enclosure from
direct sunlight and must always be used.
• The pressure sensor is located inside the enclosure.
• Most sensors are installed on the mast or on the sensor support arm. The following are
exceptions:
• Precipitation sensor and ceilometer are mounted on individual pedestals away from
the mast.
• Ground sensors and subsurface sensors are installed some distance from the mast.
To ensure system operability, install the sensors close to the mast. This
reduces the risk of low signal quality as well as operating and heating voltage loss.
