– Tighten bearing caps 5 and 9 alternately and diagonally to 5

B - Exhaust camshaft
– Tighten bearing caps 6 and 10 alternately and diagonally to 5
Nm +

Install bearing caps 2 and 14 and tighten to 5 Nm and turn
1

8
(45°) further.

Install bearing cap 8 and tighten to 5 Nm and turn
1
/
8
(45°)
further.
–
Install bearing caps 4 and 12, tighten to 5 Nm and turn
1
/
8
(45°)
further.
Continuation for both camshafts
– Insert camshaft bar - T10068 A- in both shaft grooves.
– Before installing, check valve timing housing strainer for soil‐
ing ⇒ page 102 .
– Before installing timing housing, lubricate camshaft seals.
– Lubricate contact surfaces of seals in timing housing and then
slowly push timing housing over camshaft seals.
– Install timing housing and tighten bolts -arrows-. Specified tor‐
que ⇒ page 102 .
– Install camshaft adjuster with camshaft timing chain
⇒ page 64 .
– Clean sealing surface on cover.
– If seals in cover are to be renewed ⇒ page 94 .
– Apply a thin bead of sealant - D 176 501 A1- on clean sealing
surface of cover.
