Checking oil pressure switch:
– Remove oil pressure switch - F1- ⇒ Item 12 (page 129) and
screw into tester.
– Screw oil pressure tester - V.A.G 1342- into oil filter housing
in place of oil pressure switch using adapter - V.A.G 1342/14- .
Note
Observe installation position of adapter - V.A.G 1342/14- : the
conical connecting piece of the adapter must be screwed into the
pressure hose of the oil pressure tester - V.A.G 1342- .
– Connect brown wire of oil pressure tester - V.A.G 1342- to
earth (-).
– Connect voltage tester - V.A.G 1527B- to battery positive (+)
and oil pressure switch - V.A.G 1594C- using cables from
auxiliary test set - F1- . LED must not light up.
If the LED lights up:
– Renew oil pressure switch - F1- ⇒ Item 12 (page 129) .
If LED does not light up:
Note
Observe tester and LED while starting, as switching point of oil
pressure switch may already be exceeded when starting.
– Start engine and run at idling speed.
At 1.2 to 1.6 bar the LED must light up; otherwise renew oil pres‐
sure switch - F1- ⇒ Item 12 (page 129) .
Checking oil pressure:
– Check oil pressure at different revolutions:
♦ 1,500 rpm: at least 1.7 bar
♦ 2000 rpm: 3.0 to 5.5 bar
♦ Over 2000 rpm: maximum 7.0 bar
If the specifications are not attained:
♦ Check strainer in oil suction pipe ⇒ Item 12 (page 117) for dirt.
♦ Check control piston of oil pressure safety valve in oil pump
for dirt.
♦ Check oil pipe at bottom of cylinder block
⇒ Item 14 (page 118) for leaks.
Note
♦
Mechanical damage, e.g. to bearings, could also be the cause
for oil pressure being too low.
♦
The oil pressure safety valve control piston is spring-loaded.
Great care is therefore required when screwing the plug in/out.
♦
The plug is tightened to 35 Nm in oil pump.
