– Remove securing bolt for filler neck -arrow- in wheel housing.
– Pull off breather pipes on activated charcoal filter
⇒ page 207 .
– Now remove securing straps together with covers on right and
left under fuel tank.
– Use engine and gearbox jack - V.A.G 1383 A- to support fuel
tank and then remove securing strap in middle of fuel tank.
– Carefully lower fuel tank slightly.
– Disconnect connector from fuel pump control unit - J538-
⇒ Item 4 (page 176) .
– Detach breather pipe on pipe coupling ⇒ Item 12 (page 176) .
Note
Release connection by pressing button on line coupling.
– Lower fuel tank.
Installing:
Installation is carried out in the reverse order. When installing,
note the following:
♦ Connections for breather and fuel lines must engage audibly
when joined.
♦ Install breather and fuel hoses free of kinks.
♦ When opening always renew flange seal.
♦ Secure fuel hoses with spring-type clips.
♦ Ensure that connectors and fuel hose connections are fitted
securely.
♦ Ensure that earth wire on fuel filler neck is secured tight to
body.
Note
Before bolting on fuel tank, check that supply and breather lines
are still clipped onto fuel tank.
