VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT
Valve clearance adjustment should be made
with the engine cool, at room temperature.
When the valve clearance is to be measured
or adjusted, the piston must be at Top Dead
Center (T.D.C.) on the compression stroke.
1. Remove:
Meter assembly
Fuel tank
Refer to “FUELTANK AND SEATS”.
2. Remove:
Carburetor assembly
Refer to “CARBURETOR” in CHAPTER 5.
3. Disconnect:
Spark plug caps
4. Remove:
Spark plugs
5. Remove:
Ignition coil

6. Remove:
Cylinder head covers
Refer to “ENGINE REMOVAL”.
Cylinder head cover brackets
Refer to “CYLINDER HEADS”.
7. Remove:
Tappet covers
