8. Zero the SP (press ).
9. Manually gain the GDP-32
II
. It is best not to manually adjust G1 without an
oscilloscope. Confine adjustments to G2. Increment gain stage G2 until the signal level
is just below ±2 volts (needle ±20 on meter), or until the maximum gain (64) is reached.
10. Observe the analog meters to ensure that the needles swing around zero (if not, repeat
step 8).
11. Exit gain-setting mode by pressing
Enter
.
NOTE: Selectable gains are from 1 to 64 for gain stages G1 and G2. Manual mode is not
recommended for regular use, as it is easy to saturate the analog section.
Fixing and flipping gains:
In some types of noisy environments, it is advisable to limit the Gain to the first input amplifier,
or set the Attenuator permanently IN or OUT. The Fix Gain option allows the operator to fix
only specific gain fields (e.g. G2) while allowing the receiver to automatically set the other gain
fields (e.g. G0, G1, A).
1. Connect field wires and turn on the transmitter.
2. Set the frequency on both the controller and the receiver.
3. Press
and then for the manual gain option.Fix andFlip keys
appear on the screen above
and .
4. Select the G0, G1, G2 or Atn fields, and manually set the gain and/or attenuator values.
Fix the values by pressing
. The Fix Flag is represented by an asterisk “*next
to the gain value or attenuator state.
5. To remove the Fix Flag, press .
Gains can be “flipped” only once after each automatic gain setting. This operation, initiated by
pressing , puts all possible gain into the second gain stage and places remaining gain in
the first gain stage. For example, after automatic gain ranging the gains were 32 for G1 and 8 for
G2. By pressing the gains will be rearranged to 4 for G1 and 64 for G2.
Things to Consider
Avoid setting gains during anomalous bursts of noise.
