Chapter 8: Configuring the Master of the Stack Trunk with 5Gbps Multi-Speed Ports
162
Introduction
The trunk ports of a stack of GS980MX/10HSm, GS980MX/18HSm,
GS980MX/28PSm, or GS980MX/52PSm switches can be the 5Gbps
multi-speed ports or the 10Gpbs SFP+ ports. The default trunk ports are
10Gbps ports. Directions on how to use the default ports as the stack
trunk are provided in Chapter 7, “Building the Trunk with the Default
10Gbps Stacking Ports” on page 141.
This chapter contains the procedures for configuring GS980MX/10HSm,
GS980MX/18HSm, GS980MX/28PSm, or GS980MX/52PSm switches to
use 5Gbps ports for the stack trunk.
Here are the general steps:
1. Fill in “Stacking Worksheet” on page 85.
2. Review the configuration commands in “Command Summary” on
page 163.
3. Perform “Configuring the Master Switch” on page 167.
4. Perform “Configuring the Member Switch” on page 201.
5. Perform “Powering on the Stack” on page 228
6. Perform “Verifying the Stack” on page 229
Review the following information before performing the instructions:
Perform the procedures in the order presented here.
Choose the master switch before beginning the procedure. It can
be any of the switches. Refer to “Master and Member Switches” on
page 79.
If you have not selected the trunk ports yet, you should do so
before continuing. Refer to “Stack Trunks of 5Gbps Ports On the
GS980MX/10HSm, GS980MX/18HSm, GS980MX/28PSm, or
GS980MX/52PSm” on page 73.
If you have already connected network cables to the ports of the
stack trunk, disconnect them before continuing. You should cable
the ports after configuring the switches for stacking.
Note
Cabling the ports of the stack trunk before configuring the switches
can result in loops in your network topology, which can cause poor
network performance.
