Install Drives in SC280 Enclosures
TheSC280enclosuresupportsupto843.5‐inchharddrivesinstalledintwodrawerswithin
theenclosure.HarddrivesconnecttothebackplaneusingDiskDriveinCarrier(DDIC)
harddrivecarriers.
Installing Drives
Followtheserequirementswheninstallingdrivesintheenclosure.
Anyrowwithdrivesinstalledmustbefilledentirely(14drives).
Theminimumnumberofdrivesinanenclosureis14(onerow).
Thenumberofpopulatedrowsbetweendrawersmustnotdifferbymorethanone.
Populaterowsbeginningatthefrontoftheenclosureandmovingtotherear.
Foranewinstallation,followtheserecommendationsforpopulating42‐driveenclosures.

Steps
1 LowertheDDICintotheslot.
2 Pushandholddown theDDICandslideittowardthebackoftheenclosureuntilthe
DDIClatchestothebackplane.
3 Afteralldrivesareinstalled,closethedrawer.
4 Whentheenclosureisturnedon,makesurethatthedriveLEDsarenot
lit,indicating
normalconditions.
Caution: Iftheenclosureoperatesfortoolong(dependingonaltitude)withdrive
drawersopen,theenclosurecanoverheat,causingpotentialdrivefailureanddata
loss.Suchusemayinvalidatethewarranty.
Caution: RemovingadrivefromtheDDICcandamagetheDDIC.Donotremove
drivesfromDDICs.
Caution: Whentheenclosureturnsoff,thediskscontinuetospinafterlosing
power.Toavoiddamagetothedisk,waitforthedisktostopspinning
(approximately10secondsaftershutdown)beforepullingthediskfromthe
enclosure.
