3.9.6 Setting the needle guard
Fig. 43: Setting the needle guard
Proper setting
The needle guard (5) keeps the needle (1) from being deflected into the
path of the hook tip (2).
Before the hook tip (2) reaches the needle, the needle tip needs to abut
on the needle guard (5). It must not be possible to push the needle into the
path of the hook tip (2).
When the hook tip is level with the middle of the needle, the distance
between the hollow groove of the needle and the hook tip (2) must be
0.1 mm.
To set the needle guard:
1. Dismantle the throat plate.
2. Remove hook cover and bobbin case bottom parts ( p. 52).
3. Loosen the screw (4).
4. Adjust the needle guard (5) by turning the eccentric bolt (3).
5. Tighten the screw (4) firmly.
6. Assemble bobbin case bottom parts and hook cover.
7. Assemble the throat plate.
WARNING
Risk of injury from sharp parts!
Punctures possible.
Do not check and adjust the needle guard unless
the sewing unit is switched off.
