Foundry Switch and Router Installation and Configuration Guide
9 - 12 December 2000
NOTE: The number of ports on the Long-Haul modules (LHA and LHB) depends on how many ports you order.
Stackable Devices
Foundry Networks provides Stackable Layer 2 and Layer 3 Switches in addition to Chassis devices.
Foundry Networks offers three models of Stackable switches—the FastIron, ServerIron, and TurboIron; and two
models of Stackable Layer 3 Switches—the NetIron and TurboIron.
All are based on Foundry Networks’ hardware-based multilayer architecture. The FastIron and TurboIron
Stackable switches provide support for Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching within one platform.
FastIron Workgroup Layer 2 Switch
The FastIron Workgroup switch is a Layer 2 Switch targeted at workgroup or server consolidation and
acceleration applications, as well as a replacement for intelligent hubs. FastIron Workgroup switches provide
support for 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, and Gigabit full-duplex Ethernet, providing a scalable platform for growing
departments or demanding bandwidth applications.
FastIron Workgroup switches are available with either a 16-port or 24-port 10BaseTX/100BaseTX configuration.

NOTE: Optional Fast Ethernet and Gigabit expansion modules are also available for building large, fast Gigabit
networks.
ServerIron Switch
Foundry Networks' ServerIron switch provides Internet service providers (ISPs) and enterprise Intranet managers
with a high-density, high-performance Layer 4 switch that improves the performance of existing servers, ensures
applications availability, and increases network redundancy.
ServerIron can be used in all server farm or transparent caching environments, including Web, FTP, and email.
ServerIron provides 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, and Gigabit Ethernet connectivity to servers. Fast Ethernet links also
can be multi-homed for greater bandwidth and redundancy.
The ServerIron is available in 8-port, 16-port, or 24-port 10/100BaseTX configurations. Gigabit Ethernet
expansion modules are available in 1000BaseSX multi-mode and 1000BaseLX single-mode. You also can
upgrade a BigIron into a BigServerIron, which is a chassis-based ServerIron.
