LO Synthesizer/Reference Troubleshooting
A14 LO Synthesizer and A20 YTO Troubleshooting
Verifying the 4800 MHz 1st LO Reference Power and Frequency
Stability:
1. Turn on the N9030B Signal Analyzer and wait for the instrument to
complete the boot up process.
2. Press FREQ, 50 MHz, SPAN, Zero Span, Meas Setup, PhNoise Opt, Best
Close in PNoise. If Phase Noise Optimization is not set to either Best Close
in PNoise or Best Wide Offset PNoise, the 4800 MHz 1st LO Reference
signal will be approximately 20 dB lower than required for proper
dual-loop operation.
3. Disconnect W31 from A14J4 (see Figure 8-2).

4. Connect the end of W31 to the RF input of the functioning spectrum
analyzer.
5. Set the functioning spectrum analyzer to a center frequency of 4800 MHz
and a span of 5 MHz. Set the reference level to +10 dBm.
6. Press Peak Search on the functioning spectrum analyzer. The analyzer
marker should read 4800 MHz at +3 dBm ± 3 dB as shown in Figure 8-3.
DS3 (red LED) will blink between sweeps when cable W31 is removed. This
