11. Alarm and Warning
11-10
11.3.5. Warning A3: Software Thermal
The Driver Unit is estimating the heat generation and radiation of the Motor based on the current flowing
through the Motor windings.
The warning occurs when the estimation of heat generation exceeds the threshold.
Table 11-12: Cause and remedy for the warning A3
Cause
Remedy
(1)
Unmatched combination of Motor
and Driver Unit.
Check for proper combination
(2)
Excessive load
When this warning occurs within few seconds:
Check for mechanical restraint that causes high friction resistance or locks
the Motor motion.
Review load conditions. (Reduce load inertia.)
Increase idle time.
Readjust acceleration/deceleration parameters.
In case of the pulse train command operation, adjust the parameter settings
of master controller.)
(3)
Mechanical restraint to the Motor such as
brake
(4)
Excessive Motor duty cycle.
(5)
Vibration caused by poor adjustment of
servo parameters
Set the servo parameters properly.
(Refer to “5. Tuning.”)
(6)
Defective cable, Motor or Driver Unit
Follow “Appendix 2: How to Check Motor Condition” for checking their
conditions. Replace the cable or the Motor if necessary.
If above procedures do not work, the Driver Unit may be defective.
Replace it referring to “Appendix 5: Procedure for Replacing Driver Unit
Model EDD,” if necessary.
(1) Do not turn off the control power at the occurrence of this warning.
If the control power is turned off, the estimated value of heat generation is cleared and the
Driver Unit won’t detect the existence of heat generation at the next power-on. When this
situation is repeated, the Driver Unit won’t be able to detect the warning even the heat is
actually accumulated to dangerous level.
(2) The input ACLR (Alarm clear) input or the command CL (Clear alarm) clears the warning. However, it
requires a sufficient air cooling of the Motor before resuming the operation because the Motor winding
remains in the high temperature state. It also requires removing the cause of overheat as well.
